The young lady at the front desk was lovely and so was the nurse that took my weight and blood pressure. I was very nervous because I am 43 and started experiencing severe perimenopause symptoms at 40. I was gaslit by several doctors before I began educating myself on perimenopause symptoms and hormone replacement therapy. The first OBGYN I came across was Dr. Marie Haver, however, she is not the only OB that specializes in perimenopause that I have learned from. Through Dr. Haver’s social media presence, I finally felt validated.
Dr. Carter informed me that her first child was delivered by Dr. Haver and had mostly positive things to say about her.
Today, I saw Dr. Carter and she was immediately annoyed, sighed heavily and rolled her eyes when I began telling her that I was on hormones.
She asked who gave them to me with a rude and suspicious tone. I told her that it was Evernow at first and currently, my psychiatrist fills them because she is also a hormone specialist.
She laughed and said
"that's cute".
She was very dismissive and talked to me like I was stupid. I was actually there to hopefully have Dr. Carter be the one to prescribe my HRT because I know that even if my psychiatrist specializes in HRT, she is still not an OB. Unfortunately, she was so rude, I didn’t get the opportunity to tell her that right away. She also didn’t seem to want to answer many questions about perimenopause or HRT and told me at least twice to schedule a different appointment to discuss that.
I understand that with the recent flood of information about HRT and perimenopause, Dr. Carter may be frustrated by patients coming in to see her who don’t know what they are talking about or who are prescribed the wrong doses of hormones. My opinion is, if Dr. Carter is tired or annoyed of/with women coming in talking about hormones and seeking help, she shouldn’t be an OB.
I would also like to add that my perimenopause symptoms were so severe that I became suicidal for the first time in my life at 40. A lot of women experience this and should not be met with anything but kindness and understanding whether they are on the wrong amount of HRT or not. After my visit with Dr. Carter, I went to my car and cried. I’m very disappointed and will not be scheduling another appointment to talk about perimenopause/HRT.

I was not heard, respected, or taken seriously during my appointment.
I waited over 30 minutes to see the doctor, only for her to spend barely 10 minutes with me. During that time, she essentially told me—and I quote—“I’m fat, and if I lose weight, I would feel better.”
That is not medical care. I have been trying to lose weight for years and am already seeing a weight-management doctor to address this issue. Repeatedly telling me to “lose weight” without actually listening to my concerns, asking meaningful questions, or offering real solutions is dismissive and completely unhelpful.
The doctor acted annoyed to be there and made it very clear that she did not want to spend time with me. I left feeling like I was an inconvenience and a waste of her time. That is especially unacceptable from someone who claims to provide women’s health care. Women deserve to be listened to, respected, and treated as patients—not dismissed with the same tired advice regardless of why they came in.
The lack of privacy was also unacceptable. The tiny scrap of green cloth provided as a covering was completely inadequate. To make matters worse, the exam-room door was left partially open, allowing anyone walking through the hallway to potentially see a woman who was undressed. That is a serious violation of basic privacy and dignity.
This entire experience was unacceptable—from the dismissive attitude and lack of meaningful care to the complete disregard for my privacy. I would not recommend this doctor to any woman seeking compassionate, respectful, or competent women’s health care.
Patients deserve better than this.

I set an appointment with Dr Bergstrom because I was concerned about a prolapse. She told me thousands of women had rectal prolapses and just to use estradiol cream. She left the exam room to check my urine sample. i thought she would come back to discuss my issues further. Instead the nurse just told me she sent a prescription for uti to drugstore. I had many questions about the prolapse, especially since the hormone cream wouldn’t resolve my issue. I felt Dr. Bergstrom didn’t address my issues, didn’t give me time to ask questions and did not care. She didn’t even set up a follow up visit. I left with a lot of questions & no answers. I feel she is very uncaring, unsympathetic & dismissive
